Story
I am Lucas Treip, I am 17 years old and go to Dulwich College in South East London. I have been following the charity SurvivorsUK for a while now. I believe their work in helping men who have been victims of sexual abuse incredibly important, yet, I can see that they do not have a big enough influence for their work to reach all the people that need it. I thought, as a supporter of the charity, I could try and play a small part in making their work go further. I thought that I would try and raise some money for the charity by shaving my head, once the goal has been reached. For those of you that know me personally, the idea of shaving my head is going to be... interesting... Anyhow, donations, however big or small, would be greatly appreciated and below is a bit more about the charity SurvivorsUK-
SurvivorsUK helps men who’ve been raped, sexually abused or assaulted. Every year in the UK, around 12,000 men are raped and 76,000 sexually abused or assaulted. It isn’t easy for men to talk about what’s happened to them: only 4% will speak about it. Of the few who do, it takes an average of 26 years to do so. SurvivorsUK wants to challenge stereotypes and taboos that prevent men speaking about what’s happened to them. Our counselling, helpline and support services are here to help men deal with the devastating impact of rape and sexual abuse.
