Story
UPDATE - Listen to Lucy talking about her story on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour, Mon 18 June.
My name is Lucy. I was a skilled nurse with a good job, who used to come home to a nice house and garden. When my husband's business collapsed during the financial crash a few years ago, we found ourselves in debt overnight. One evening I came home from work and my husband had gone.
My whole world completely smashed apart. I suffered a breakdown and tried to take my own life - becoming seriously ill in hospital for months. I left hospital homeless, vulnerable and terrified.
Thanks to you and St Mungo’s specialist women’s services, I’m now making great progress at a women’s project in Camden.
To help raise awareness of the needs of vulnerable women I will be taking part in a sponsored 3 mile walk on 22 June as part of St Mungo’s Action Week, which is calling for big improvements in the way homeless women are treated.
There are so many women out there who need your help, and so much more that needs to be done. That’s why I’m asking, would you consider sponsoring me with a gift of £10? Together we can make a huge difference. Believe me, for homeless women, this difference is priceless.
Thank you.
