Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So 2019 has not quite turned out as I had hoped, missing out
on the Anglesey Half Marathon and Manchester Marathon due to a nasty chest infection, which also hit my Ironman training. However, having clawed it back to have a chance of getting round the Bolton course myself and my wife Emma were hit by the sad news that following a scan, our baby had no heartbeat. After just 14 short weeks of being pregnant and planning for the delights of parenthood (and sleepless nights) our precious baby, Wallace had been taken from us before we even got to meet him.
Everything else took a back seat, I went on bike rides but
just short ones to try and keep myself sane, I didn’t have the strength or
desire for anything over an hour and didn't want to leave Emma for any longer than that. I therefore took the very difficult and rather sad decision to drop out of the Ironman for 2019...I will be back (once I've saved up enough to register again.....).
I decided I wanted and needed a focus and a challenge in memory of our little angel and also raise some money for some amazing causes therefore 2019 is all about the Triathlon X, billed as the most difficult half distance triathlon course in the world...so nothing to worry about then! It involves a 1.2 mile swim in Windermere, 56 mile bike ride heading up the struggle (the clue is in the name....) and Hardknott pass (both ways) coming in at a leg busting 33% then a 13 mile run to the summit of Fairfield it's a challenge superman would think twice about! However I am doing this for three very good causes all close to my heart :
Even though Wallace never got to see this world, I wanted his short life to make a difference and therefore I will be raising money for friends of serenity (http://www.friendsofserenity.org/ ) in his memory. They are a charity which provides invaluable support and care along with memory boxes to bereaved parents. The support from the maternity unit and friends of serenity was invaluable to us at such a difficult and confusing time.
I will also be raising money for two charities which were part of my Ironman fundraising. Derian House Children’s Hospice, who my great aunt was a avid supporter and fundraiser for. She sadly passed away in 2016 and I wanted to raise money for them in her memory.

As well as that, I will be raising money for MIND. Having suffered quite badly from mental health and depression after a string of emotional events, I know how easy it is to slip to a very dark and lonely place and having support for individuals and their families is so very important.

As always a big thank you for the support, I know these
charities mean as much to many of you as they do to me.
