Garry Adams is about to embark on an unusual and demanding challenge. March 2013 will see Garry walk 100 miles around the track at Footes Lane in 24 hours. Garry is no stranger to physical challenges, having completed marathons and triathlons he has now set his sights on a new trial – a 24 hour race against time that he is embarking on to raise money for local men’s cancer charity – Male Uprising Guernsey. (MUG). The plan is to start the walk at 2.30pm on a Friday afternoon in March and finish 2.30 on the Saturday before a GFC game. 100 miles will be 403 laps of Footes Lane track and wisely Garry has decided to set Bronze, Silver and Gold completion targets.
Garry’s training is well underway, and he plans to complete several 12 hour walks before the big day. ‘Since moving here I have been amazed at the level of community and charity work that takes place on this island. Guernsey folk will be my inspiration throughout the walk. Mars bars and high energy drinks will keep me going throughout the hours of walking and I expect to go through two pairs of trainers, upwards of 12 pair of socks and several tee-shirts in the 24 hour timeframe,’ explained Garry.
