Story
One hundred years ago, 100,000 wild tigers roamed throughout Asia, now there are less than 3,200. In the last 100 years Asia’s wild tiger range has shrunk to 7% of its original habitat and 40% of that happened in the past ten years.
When I visited the Isle of Wight Zoo earlier this year I was very moved by a talk one of the keepers gave about the plight of tigers in the wild. I decided to raise funds for 21 Century Tiger which works with zoos to raise money to protect tigers in the wild.
21st Century Tiger supports carefully vetted projects focusing on anti-poaching, education, habitat restoration, monitoring and much more with money raised by zoos and the public.
I decided to raise money for tigers by walking the entire Cotswolds Way in 9 days. It was a tough walk, averaging 12 miles a day with some very steep hills. In total I walked 10,600 feet uphill and 100 miles. I did this in my own time and at my own expense.
Please support me by giving as much as you can to this very worthwhile cause. I have set a target of £10,000, but hope to raise more as this is a drop in the ocean when every tiger is worth £100,000 to a poacher. And when a female tiger is killed the cubs rarely survive without their mother, which means the next generation of tigers is also wiped out.
“Future generations would be truly saddened that this century had so little foresight, so little compassion, such lack of generosity of spirit for the future that it would eliminate one of the most dramatic and beautiful animals that this world has ever seen” – George B. Schaller
