Over 30 years ago Dad (a keen cyclist as a teenager, toured the Scottish Highlands and the North Wales and Cheshire lanes in the 1950's) suggested that we should cycle from Lands' End to John O' Groats. Time seems to have passed so quickly with neither of us being able to find a suitable time to get together to take on this challenge. With Dad now into his 70's and me fast approaching 50 we thought now is the right time. So during May and June 2012 we will be attempting this long distance cycle ride. Please give us any support you can, be it donations to our chosen charities, the offer of a cup of tea as we pass through your home town or a bed for the night! Any support you can give will be gratefully accepted.

I have chosen to ride to raise funds for Bowel & Cancer Research and Dad for Pancreatic Cancer Research, (Mum & Dad made an excellent start to the Fund Raising for this charity after asking for donations in lieu of presents for their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2011) we hope that funds raised by the ride will at least double that already received from the Golden Wedding Anniversary and will be used for ongoing reseach into the causes of these cancers.

Bowel & Cancer Research

Bowel & Cancer Research has a vision that no-one should die of bowel cancer or be compelled to live with astoma (colostomy or ileostomy). It carries out research into what causes bowel cancer to spread (metastasise) in individuals with the aim of improving diagnosis and treatment under its Saving Lives programme and research into other bowel conditions together with pioneering surgical interventions under its Changing Lives programme.

Our mission is to defeat pancreatic cancer by funding and promoting innovative research into the disease - research that will lead to the development of more effective detection and treatment.

We directly fund research into the disease by offering grants to researchers in universities, research institutes and hospitals in the UK and Ireland.

We encourage the major funding organisations and the research community to give pancreatic cancer greater attention.
