Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This fundraising challenge has been in my mind since 2015. I'm very excited that this is finally happening and I hope you can help me achieve it. Read below Adam's story, which shows why I'm supporting Whoopsadaisy and find out about my four events challenge!... there might be more until I reach my target!

It costs Whoopadaisy £3,000 to support one kid for a year

Adam's story. Ben and Lizbeth are family to me. They have a gorgeous 5 year old boy called Adam (see photo) who suffers from Mitochondrial DNA Depletion Syndrome linked to the SUCLA2 gene. This condition is so rare that Adam is the only sufferer in the UK. Since 2012, Adam has been attending Whoopsadaisy and this has proven to be a game changer. Thanks to the care and rehabilitation work this small charity gives Adam, he can now walk unassisted. This was unthinkable a couple of years ago.

Whoopsadaisy is
an independent Brighton based charity that provides physical therapy and conductive education to children with disabilities, some of them caused by rare conditions of which very little is known. The only funding the charity receives is through private donations.

The challenge. I’m setting myself four challenges to raise £3,000 for Whoopsadaisy. I will do as many events as I need to! so far the following four have been selected!

  • On 26 February, I ran Brighton half marathon. This is where I ran my first half marathon ever in 2012. I managed to do this in 02:15:31. Not my fastest time, but I finished it.
  • On 12 March, I’m running the Surrey half marathon and I will run it in a faster time than Brighton. Which I did! I managed to finish it in 02:14:25... over a minute faster!
  • On 29 April, I will participate in a challenge in the Isle of Wight. I will walk half of the island, 52km (a marathon + 10km) in less than 11 hours.
  • On 10 June, I'm running the Thames Path Potter. Four laps equal half marathon... I will run at least five laps!

Thank you in advance for all your contributions, big or small, to help me achieve my greatest fundraising challenge to date. It will really, really make a difference to Whoopsadaisy and your help means the world to me. And thank you so much to everyone that has already donated.

Watch out for future updates!

Maria
