Story

At Hope and Homes for Children we are saving the lives of children who need help the most. And it costs just £2 per child per day for us to do this. So I'm compelled to take my belly in hand and work up to our triathlon. Cycling, running, swimming and other near death experiences.

My belly is going to need some serious encouragement so why not make a donation to Tubster Waddington's efforts to raise funds for the work of Hope and Homes for Children. And given that I'm CEO you know that you're money will genuinely go to delivering our cause!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Hope and Homes for Childrenm and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

There are currently 8 million children confined to institutions around the world. However, the mortality rate of children confined to institutions is significantly higher than for children living with a family. On all other key indicators such as education, physical and psychological health, and emotional well being children confined to institutions are significantly worse off and this is correlated with being in an institution, not the circumstances which led them there. And yet institutions are considered to be the most efficient way of caring for children by many governments.

Hope and Homes for Children is the only organisation to actually work in partnership with governments to directly close institutions, place children in adoptive or foster care, train up social workers and actually prevent children from going into institutions in the first place. We use our practical on-the-ground experience of our work to transform child care policy in a way that benefits many more children than we could work with directly.

In Romania alone Hope and Homes for Children is responsible for reducing the number of children confined to institutions from over 100,000 to under 10,000. We have agreements in place with the governments of Romania and Rwanda to close down every last institution in those countries over the coming years. We are using this success to work closely with governments in a number of other eastern and central European countries as well as African countries.

Hope and Homes for children is able to provide life saving protection and care for children living in some of the worst locations in the world, while changing the very structures that cause the problem for approximately £2 per child per day.

Hope and Homes for Children is at the cutting edge of child care reform.
