Story

UPDATE
————————
TEAM MARATHON MALTBY - WE DID IT. Thank you for support throughout this whole process, as on Sunday I completed the London Marathon in 03.34.49. Chuffed with that time given the record-breaking conditions - it was as hard as it looked. The money raised will make a huge difference to the charity, so it’s hugely appreciated - but I want us to raise as much as possible so any further donations are hugely appreciated.

I have chosen to run the 2018 London Marathon on behalf of the Dyspraxia Foundation and will be raising money to help them support all those affected by the disorder.

Dyspraxia - a form of developmental coordination disorder (DCD) - is a disorder affecting fine and/or gross motor co-ordination in children and adults. It also affects speech.

For those who know me, clumsiness and a lack of co-ordination (I failed my driving test six times and regularly walk into things!) are certainly two of my stronger attributes.

In all seriousness, though, for me it's a disorder that needs a lot more awareness. I struggled throughout my childhood, needing to use makaton language and then speech therapy as a young child. It also took me much longer than other kids my ages to ride a bike, and my technique when doing most sports isn't exactly pleasing to the eye.

I'd like to think I've learnt to live with it now, but still to this day it affects me. I can't hold a pen properly, have the worst hand writing, can't multi-task (but men can't in general, you say?) and find myself getting a bit too anxious when there's a lot to think about.

So, having grown up with dyspraxia and experienced first-hand the affects it can have on individuals and those close to you (it's safe to say I was a stressful child to bring up so shout out to my mum, dad and bother), I'd like to raise a little a bit of awareness and contribute to a cause I feel passionate about.

Any amount is greatly appreciated, it's all for a great cause and would make this challenge even more rewarding if I can meet my ambitious target.

Thank you all for your time and for visiting my JustGiving page.
