An exciting virtual cycle/walk/run challenge this January to help feed South African children in need.
Story
An ‘old’ school friend of mine, is a Trustee of this charity which helps feed children in South Africa with a daily breakfast of a nutritious porridge, for some, their only meal of the day. It costs just £20 a yearto feed one child.
Covid has decimated the funds as the need has increased, and fundraising opportunities have been scarce. Pre-school children suffer most as poor nutrition affects both their mental and their physical development. In January GRCT have planned a virtual walk around all their feeding stations in South Africa (a total of 2,300 miles) and together with another ‘old’ school friend I have pledged to walk or cycle a total of 150 miles of it in January. That equates to 5 miles every day whatever the weather, plus one day off, but it will be worth the effort.
Our aim is to alleviate poverty amongst children in South Africa through the provision of food and education. Our main focus is on feeding through pre-schools and primary schools using a fortified porridge which provides the nutrients which are essential for physical and mental development.
