Story

Ali Fleming along with her neice Sharlene and husband Dinos will be cycling 100 miles in the Prudential Ride London to raise money for Max Appeal. Max Appeal is a charity that helps people with DiGeorge Syndrome.

Ali's youngest daughter has DiGeorge syndrome, and now in her teenage years she is going through some challenging times while she transitions into young adulthood.

Nell has an extremely caring nature and is very loving, she's so loved and very special to our family, which is why we want to raise money for Max Appeal.  Max Appeal helps children and young adults with DiGeorge syndrome just like Nell, to ensure they live a full-filled and normal life.

WHO ARE MAXAPPEAL?

MaxAppeal's mission is to try to ensure that every person with DiGeorge syndrome lives an independent and prosperous life as possible.

What they do?

* We run events for people of all ages to share experiences, develop and learn.
* We provide information and resources.
* We provide support to families and individuals to empower them.
* We support research to expand knowledge of the condition.
* We make it possible for families to talk informally and get together.

Max Appeal was founded by parents of children diagnosed with DiGeorge Syndrome/VCFS/22q11.2 deletion. We are a small national charity, run almost exclusively by a group of dedicated volunteers backed up with a knowledgeable panel of medical professionals. Max had a short life but Max Appeal is a charity with a vibrant life of its own.

WHAT IS DIGEORGE SYNDROME?

DiGeorge syndrome, also known as 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, is a syndrome caused by the deletion of a small segment of chromosome 22. While the symptoms can be variable, they often include congenital heart problems, specific facial features, frequent infections, developmental delay, learning problems and cleft palate
