I am currently nearing the end of my 6 month training
programme for The Coastal Challenge (http://thecoastalchallenge.com). This gruelling multi-stage race covers 236km over the course of six consecutive days. Run through remote areas of the Costa Rican rainforest, it incorporates challenging terrain as well as multiple mountain ascents in excess of 34000 feet of elevation gain. I am told to anticipate extreme humidity and temperatures well in excess of 30 degrees (I’m sure you can appreciate the practicality of training for such an event in a European climate has not been without its challenges!)

I am embarking upon this challenge in memory of my Dad who
suffered a fatal cardiac arrest whilst on holiday in Costa Rica. Heart disease remains a leading cause of death in the UK and seriously affects the quality of life of thousands. It is my hope that medical advancements will work towards changing this and help people to live longer, happier and healthier lives.
