Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Co-operation Ireland JustGiving page.

In June 2015 Michael McClughin will celebrate going past his 50th year by departing from Belfast on his bicycle, with the intention of visiting as many other ‘Belfasts’ (as is practicable) around the world, cycling approximately 18,000+ miles, before returning by June 2016!

Michael says...."Having been smitten with the cycling bug in 1997, when I cycled through Africa, it was only natural upon my return that I wanted to do a few events back in Northen Ireland.

The iconic annual event is the Maracycle (Belfast - Dublin - Belfast), over 2 days, organised by Co-operation Ireland, but believe it or not, I have still to do this one, as I have been out of the country during the last 3 years when it has been on, but will definately be doing it this year (June 28th & 29th, 2014).

I have, however, done 2 of the events that temporarily replaced the 'big one'. with the 'Border Trek 2000' two day trip around the Lakes of Fermanagh and in 2009 a two day event called 'Into The East', starting in Dundalk. Unfortunately, I do not have any photos from either event!

Last August, I completed the inaugrual London 100, a closed road 'race' essentially over the Olympic Road race course, (though Wiggins has nothing to worry about!) which started at the Olympic Park, and finished on The Mall. (See photos).

Besides always enjoying these events, I also wanted to support the aims of Co-operation Ireland; bringing people (especially the young) to-gether, from both sides of this divided country in the expectation and hope that this would lead to greater understanding and the ability to provide peace and understanding for the generations that will follow. Although an amazing ammount has been achieved since 1979 when the charity was started, there is still plenty of work to do.

Once I had decided I was going to do this challenge, I had no hesitation in deciding that Co-operation Ireland should be one of the charities that I hope to raise some money for.

Thank you for reading this....wish me luck!"

Michael
