We help children who've lost someone close to access opportunities for the future

Story

In September 2012 my friend and colleague Nicola Hughes went to help a victim of burglary she attended with our other colleague Fiona Bone, a regular occurrence in our job but this time it was a trap and neither of them made it back alive .

They were both shot and murdered in the line of duty.

I first met Nicola when we worked on Mossley neighbourhood together she was a little treasure, always smiling and cheerful, her tragic and untimely death affected everyone, in fact the whole country mourned their passing.

As a Family Liaison Officer I have witnessed first hand what murder can do to a family. On the 23rd August 2014 I had to tell 2 young children that they had to say "Goodbye to mummy forever " After work that day I cried. Their Dad is now in prison for Her murder  and the children's lives were turned upside down they lost both parents, they lost their home and had to move miles away from their school and all their friends.

This charity aims to help children just like these.

My friend Cecelia and I went to the Charity Ball we are always raising money for one charity or another but this ball was in honour of Nicola helping to raise more money for the fund.

My colleague Cecelia and I help women at work pass their fitness test, Cecelia is an inspirational woman and holds 3 female firsts in GMP but on a night out with Cecelia she set me the ultimate challenge .

" Let's run the New York Marathon " Cecelia said we were to run for Nicola's charity.

"Yes OK " I replied although some wine was speaking on my behalf . "Let's do it !"

Cecelia is a fitness coach and can get almost anyone past the fitness test but she set herself the ultimate challenge that night too !

Can Cecelia really coach a non runner like me through a marathon ????
