Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.
Pre-eclampsia is a life threatening illness that many people have never heard of. It affects the placenta during pregnancy which can cause kidney/liver damage, extremely high blood pressure, stroke and seizures in the mother and restricted growth for the baby.
I myself had no idea what it was until 2015 when my wife Sam was diagnosed with severe pre-eclampsia around six months into the pregnancy of our son Tom. As a result he had to be delivered three months early and tragically, due to medical complications, he died three weeks later. Thankfully Sam survived, but was extremely ill. It was like living our worst nightmare and it changed our lives forever.
Every six minutes somewhere in the world a woman dies as a result of pre-eclampsia. In the UK alone it leads to the death of around a 1,000 babies a year. And sadly, two years ago, Tom was one of them.
As yet, no one knows exactly what causes this condition and how to prevent it. This is why I have committed to raising money for Action on Pre-eclampsia (http://action-on-pre-eclampsia.org.uk/) by running the London Marathon.
I'm hoping that by raising money and awareness, the lives of mothers and their babies in Britain and around the world can be saved in the future. And also, that support can continue to be provided for affected families.
So please sponsor me and give generously if you can.
Thank you!
