Story
Every woman deserves a life, respect, dignity and freedom, 24 hours a day. Which is why I am cycling for 24 hours to raise awareness and support for ALL women and girls experiencing domestic violence at home.
But since the Covid-19 National-Wide Lockdown, domestic abuse incidents and homicides has risen, and this is likely to increase over the up and coming weeks. Across the world for example in China, Brazil, Spain, Cyprus, Italy and Germany, this statistic is increasing.
Under normal circumstances, spending time indoors is often unsafe for those experiencing domestic abuse, and other forms of VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls)
BUT.
Due to forced isolation, woman and girls are unable to leave their homes. They are trapped. They are unable to reach out to their family and friends and unable to obtain or access the support from local services.
Women’s refuges are already full and are remaining so due to the lack of move-on accommodation for residents during the current crisis. Even where spaces are available, women with children are worried about the possible health risks due to the prevalence of Covid-19 in refuges across the UKSolace has released an emergency appeal to raise £150,000 to make sure no woman needs to choose between Covid-19 and Domestic Abuse. Solace are a fantastic charity that have completely changed how they operate, moving services online or provided via telephone as well as ensuring that refuge and other supported accommodation services can stay open to support the most vulnerable victim/survivors and their children.
So, please help me help them!
I am an emergency worker myself and have noticed this increase in Domestic Abuse cases Women and girls are vulnerable 24 hours of the days, which is why after my shift on FRIDAY 17TH APRIL, I will cycle on my indoor bike for 24 hours.
Please help me help SOLACE.
Please help SOLACE, help them.
Thank you,
