Story
The reality/horror of a cancer diagnosis is something that is all too common for most of us.
When Ali first received her breast cancer diagnosis, shock was an understatement.... not something she, or any of us who love her expected at 47! The rollercoaster then began...... initally, the thinking was that just a lumpectomy and short course of radiotherapy and then life would get back to normal! However, with each following appointment things seemed to get a little worse.... one tumour turned out to be two...lumpectomy turned into a full mastectomy! At this point when Ali and her husband Jim felt that life was spiralling it was the Breast Clinic team at Bedford Hospital that scooped them up and supported them. And Breast Cancer Care helped to give them vital information and the answers to the many many questions that they had, both pre and post op!
Many of us feel totally helpless when a friend or loved one is diagnosed with cancer, there is little anyone can do except be there to support and listen, be a shoulder to cry on if needed.
Oh and also book a 240 mile cycling challenge across Italy!!
When I first mentioned that I had signed her up for a cycle challenge Ali naturally assumed it would be somewhere closer to home and not 3 days biking from Milan to Venice!! Well 'you gotta have a goal' Is how I sold it to her. We decided to support Women V Cancer as they raise funds and awareness for three amazing charities - Breast Cancer Care, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action. Having also seen the devastation that Ovarian cancer causes after losing my amazing Mum to this disease, these funds and knowledge are vital in increasing awareness of these female cancers!
Any donations, big or small, very gratefully received. We will keep you updated of our progress as we get underway with our training....!
Thank you so much for taking time to read our story!
Love Jo and Ali
