We are one of the UK's leading colleges to educate disabled people.

Story

Councillor Yvonne Woodhead is Nottinghamshire County Council's Chairman for the 2016/17 municipal year. As part of her role as Chairman she is able to choose a local charity to support in their fundraising efforts. Councillor Woodhead has chosen Portland College, a national specialist college based near Mansfield -

Portland College offers education and vocational training for people, aged 16 plus, with a wide range of disabilities. The College is currently trying to raise funds for a specially modified mini bus which would enable students to participate fully in sporting opportunities, leisure and educational visits, independence training, employment opportunities, work experience placements and hospital appointments. This will help the College to meet its wider aims of increasing students' confidence and assisting students' transition into independent living and employment.

A new modified mini bus will cost £52,000 and the Chairman is hoping to raise at least £5,000 towards this.

In our 70th anniversary year, we are currently raising funds to develop our Newstart Hall, transforming it from the tired hall it is today, into the region’s Centre of Excellence for health and well-being for people with disabilities.
