Nepal is a Himalayan country gifted with natural beauty and is home to 8 of the 10 highest mountains in the world and possesses a unique, diverse culture that has survived for hundreds of years. However, Nepal lacks in education, having a literacy rate of only 65%. This has been worsened by the 8.1 magnitude earthquake that struck in 2015, leaving villages across the country flattened with an estimated 35,000 classrooms and 8,000 schools destroyed. This disaster has left more than 1 million children studying in temporary shelters.

In August after we finish our GCSE’s we will be flying out to Nepal to help a school in a remote village in the district of Baglung. We will be volunteering to aid the construction of a school building, providing lessons to school children in addition to sharing our experience of being a student in a developed nation.

In addition to this online fundraiser, we are raising funds by packing bags in supermarkets including Iceland stores in Liverpool. We will also organise a charity event on 18th June 2017 from 03:00 to 08:00 pm in New Derry Social Club, 7 Mere Lane, Liverpool, L5 0QW. We are confident that with the help of our parents, friends from The Liverpool Blue Coat School and the Liverpool Nepalese Community the event will
be a success.

All the money raised will go towards the school in Nepal, helping to provide basic equipment necessary for their education. Just by donating a few pounds, you can make a significant difference in Nepal in helping children with a good education, something we take for granted. We feel that this is the least we can do to help give back and to help children less fortunate than ourselves by providing something that shouldn’t be considered a luxury, but a necessity: a good education.
