At the end of August 2010, I will be going to Senegal to teach English for a year as a volunteer for the Charity Project Trust. To do this I need to raise £4850.

I hope that this experience will help me develop my language skills and that I will be able to come back fluent in French, along side being able to hold a baisc conversation in Wolof.

This group is just to raise awareness of what I am doing and letting anyone who wants to or is willing to help about my plans. Any help large or small would be a great help.

I will be putting on several fundraising events such as The Pub Quiz, Music Night, and many other things. If theres anything in particular you'd like to attend let me know and I'll try and organise it!

Senegal is well known for it's culture of music and football, the stunning coastlines and the hustle and bustle of the capital of Dakar that most tourists rushed to when visiting the country. There is so much more to Senegal!

Senegal's motto is 'One People, One Goal, One Faith', despite this being a bit odd for a country with two national lanuages and over 80 political parties, it is a peaceful country where the greatest disrespect is to not spend enough time greating someone.

I hope that whilst there I will be able to perhaps start a drama group and come back fluent in French along side Wolof (94% of the population speak Wolof).

In January 2001 laws in Sengal declared that education should be compulsory and free for all children under the age of 16. However, due to limited resources and low demand for secular education in areas where Islamic education is more prevalent, the law is not fully enforced.

Whilst enrollment rates for schools are high (at around 80%), attendence rates often drop to around 40%. This is partly due to the huge number of students enrolling, which means that the schools cannot handle the number of students. There is perhaps not enough teachers to meet the demand.

Often children (who do not go to school) apprentice themselves to a shop, where they recieve no wages.

Your Day In Senegal:
Now's the chance for you to get a day in Senegal for only £9. What's the catch I hear you say?

The main thing is that I will be experiencing that day on your behalf. Which in someways is far more convient. None of that pesky travelling!

What do you have to do? Step 1: Simply tell me which day you'd like out of the 365 days (From End of August to End of August). It could be your Birthday, Anniversary, a day on which you'd liked to have gone on holiday on... There's alot of choice.

Step 2: Use this justgiving page to sponser me for that particular day. (or tell me if there's another form in which you'd like to do so.

Step 3: Anticipate the exciting day of your choice, where (depending on speed of post or speed of mindpower) you will recieve a postcard or goodwill thoughts. I wil associate a photo taken on each day with the sponser!

Step 4: Expect my gratitude. Thank you.
