Story
On the 30th June I will be doing the Lake District 5 Peaks challenge to raise money for Anorexia and Bulimia Care (ABC). I will be summiting 5 of the highest hills in the Lake District, Scafell Pike (978m), Great End (910m), Esk Pike (885m), Bowfell (902m), and Crinkle Crags (815m) -
all in just 12 hours!
Anorexia and Bulimia are both illnesses which have closely affected our family over the last 7 years. Government cuts to mental health services mean that in can be really hard for those with eating disorders to access adequate help and to access this help quickly, making the work of charities even more crucial.
Anorexia and Bulimia Care is a small charity offering support to those with eating disorders as well as their family and friends. Amongst other things, they offer a befriending service which links people who are struggling with an eating disorder with someone who has recovered. This gives ongoing, one-to-one support.
Eating disorders can have disastrous consequences, they have high mortality rates and of those who survive only 50% are thought to recover. Early intervention is therefore vital. ABC do a lot of crucial work to train and resource professionals, such as staff working in schools. This can really help, as the sooner people access treatment the more likely they are to recover.
ABC also campaign to reduce the stigmas surrounding eating disorders and the misconception that eating disorders are solely about people’s weight.
I’m really passionate about getting mental health and eating
disorders spoken about and for people to be given the help they need to recover. If you would like to donate I would really appreciate it.
