We support people with sickle cell disease to improve their overall quality of life
Story
This September I’ll be heading to California to take on a swim across the Catalina channel (from Catalina island to the mainland LA ,20 miles at its shortest) to raise money for the Sickle cell Society. Two of my children were born with this awful condition which is a life long disorder that affects the blood flow around the body causing constant pain and can lead to a stroke or premature death. There is no cure for this just daily medication of penicillin (to protect from illness as the spleen doesn’t function properly) & Folic acid to help create more blood cells (sicklers blood cells don’t live as long as most people’s)
I’ve no idea how long this swim is going to take me, I don’t care as long as I live to tell the tale! (I’m hoping not to upset the sea life en route) and raise awareness about this shitty illness.
I’d be grateful of any spare change you can donate to this worthy cause that doesn’t get a great deal of Publicity but supports sufferers of all ages.
*All donations go straight to the charity, I am funding my own travel and swim expenses.
