Story

What are we doing?

We are going to break the Guinness world record for the longest 5-a-side game of football. The current record for this challenge is 70 hours and 3 minutes – we are going to play for 72-75 hours. To do this we need 16 people, 2 squads of 8, to play each other with standard 5-a-side rules. Each team will have 5 people play at one time, 4 outfield players and 1 goalkeeper with 3 substitutes. The entire match will be recorded, we need spectators, FA qualified refs and people to log every goal, substitution, rest breaks, etc.

As an idea of the gravity of the challenge, over the 72 hours of the challenge, our entire team with run a total of over 2,000 Miles, we will sleep for 6-12 hours’ sleep each and score over 1500 goals – hopefully close between the teams at the end!

Who is doing this?

We vary in ages from 23 – 41 years old, born and raised in all different areas of the country! We have 1 woman and 15 men who have all realised that we are not going to be professional footballers so we have decided to explore other avenues! We all have standard jobs in different industries with different roles.

We are just normal people and that is the point! With some teamwork, focus and resilience we are able to break a Guinness world record! This is a message and concept that is hopefully inspirational to everyone.

See our Meet the Team page for more personal details!

Why are we doing this?

We are doing this for the fantastic cause that is Football Beyond Borders. We looked at a few charities, as there is many people in the group, but everyone really felt a connection to this charity as it is such a strong message that we really want to support. We feel that it is so important to give back to the community and the best way for that is guiding the youth of today. The core principles they teach children through football are; resilience, focus, confidence and teamwork. Not only is this exactly what we will need throughout our challenge but they are essential transferable characteristics that can help you succeed in every day life.
