Story
Hi, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've been raising money for the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh for a couple of years now: taking part in Sick Kids Save Point in 2011 and the Ben Nevis trek in 2012. Both were fantastic events to take part in and I'm still amazed at the generosity of my sponsors.
I've decided to try something a bit different this year and will attempt to do both. Not at the same time (for obvious health and safety reasons!) but on consecutive weekends in October. So, first up will be the Ben Nevis climb on 5th October and the following Friday (the 11th) will see me taking part in the 24 hour videogames marathon - Sick Kids Save Point.
My family and I owe a lot to the staff at the hospital, with them having been there for us since my son Conor was diagnosed with type one diabetes in June 2011. The help and support we've received from them has been outstanding, even more so since Conor was also diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder earlier this year. Having both to deal with will be a battle which he will have to face through his life, knowing that the staff at the Sick Kids are there to help him (and us) as he grows up is a massive comfort.
The money raised from my challenge will be used by the Sick Kids Friends Foundation to go towards
· - the provision of a wide variety of extra comforts, which make time in hospital better for children
· - the provision of extra child and family-friendly facilities
· - the purchase of extra medical equipment over and above NHS provision
· - the provision of extra support for sick children who are cared for in the Community
· - extra training and research
Anything that you can spare would be greatly appreciated by myself and SKFF, even reading this and learning about the work they do means a lot.
