Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my just giving page.

I am Neil James, I'm from Bernera and I am going to cycle the Butt to Barra to raise money for the fantastic charity, crossroads Lewis.

Let me tell you a bit about why I am putting my old bones through this, apart from giving my 3 daughters a good laugh I am doing this in memory of my beautiful late wife Joan Macaulay.

Joan was one of the kindest most caring people I knew, she worked tirelessly her whole life and when she retired at 60 she wanted to do something that she loved, so she got a Job working at crossroads.

This amazing charity helps families stay together and gives people that are in need of a little help the chance to maintain their independence by staying in their own home with family who care for them. crossroads will then help by providing restbite carers who will allow the full time family cares to have time for a wee break.

Joan loved sitting yarning away for hours with all her lovely clients, she would take them out and about, sit and read to them, do gardening with them and she even taught some to use her ipad so they could listen to the music they loved or church services that they had missed.

Sadly Joan was taken before her time, but I want to make sure her memory lives on. She helped raise so much money for so many people, places and charities in her life time and I want to make her proud by supporting the things she loved doing most, which was caring for people and raising money for charity.

So if you want a laugh and to help a fantastic charity at the same time please donate anything you can.

Any and all donations are so greatly appreciated.

Crossroads (Lewis) is an independent registered charity. It generates its own income, which is spent for the benefit of the people of Lewis. The Board of Crossroads (Lewis) has overall responsibility for the level and quality of the services provided. Crossroads Lewis provides care at home, regardless of age, disability or illness. Carers and individuals can receive regular support at a time they choose. Our aim is to value carers, providing respite to give them time to themselves e.g. to attend appointments, socialise or rest. Crossroads Lewis aims to prevent carers from becoming ill through exhaustion. We can give peace of mind as our Care Attendants take over the role of the family carer. Crossroads Lewis also supports those living alone in exceptional circumstances, who may be struggling with ill-health, disability or loneliness. Most referrals are made by telephone, but our office is open 9am until 1pm Monday to Friday. Anyone can make a referral to Crossroads Lewis e.g. a carer or family member, GP, Community Nurse or organisations e.g. Alzheimer Scotland or Macmillan (as long as the person referred has their permission.)
