Story

Year 10 Tretherras Students Raise Funds for Disaster Relief.

Inspirited by a recent assembly delivered by Headteacher Mrs. Sue Martin on the Typhoon Disaster, the Year 10 students; Katie Morgan, Natalie Truscott, Abby Hughes, Jemimah Lodge, Gracie Furse, Mel Reddaway and Tegan Wood decided they would take action and do something to aid the disaster in the Philippines.

The Tretherras girls are aiming to raise £700, which will help them buy a ShelterBox. A complete kit will provide an extended family with shelter and other vital equipment they need to survive and start to rebuild their lives.

The group have already been very proactive, delivering powerful assemblies to all year groups in the school, stating their intentions and drumming up enthusiasm for up and coming fund raising events.

In discussions with Head of Year 10, Mr. Jonathan Preece the girls are organising a series of major events to raise the funds they need. One of the ideas is NT’s Got Talent and will be holding auditions for this week.

Katie Morgancommented, “It is difficult for us to start this month as the school has already supported Children in Need and Movember and it’s a lot to ask for more money from everyone.”

She added, “But the Philippines disaster is such a horrific event for all those families involved we just had to do something.”

The girls have also arranged a Cake sale, Beat the Goalie and Sponge the Teacher events. They have managed to secure a deal with Mr. Preece, that should they manage to raise a £150 to sponge Mr. Preece, he will volunteer to be gunged instead. They are hoping to organise a final mass event that would see the whole year group involved in a 24hr challenge.

Mr. Preece commented, “The girls have been fantastic and showed amazing passion for this project. It will be wonderful if they could get close to their target and unbelievable if they could beyond that.”

At this stage the girls are looking for anyone wishing to offer support and more importantly donations. The school has set up a webpage to track their progress and accept donations.
