Story

Hi

I will be running the Richmond half marathon on the 12th September to raise money for PCD Support UK.  As many of you are aware, my daughter Kylie has PCD which is a rare, genetic respiratory condition.  The pandemic has been particularly challenging for our family as Kylie (and my husband and I in supporting her) were in shielding for 4 months during the first lockdown whilst still working full time / Kylie doing remote learning and in parallel trying to adapt to our new change behind closed doors.

During the pandemic, PCD Support UK has been invaluable to our family, ensuring that the PCD community was always kept updated of the frequent medical news relating to covid-19.

When the shielding was lifted for our family, I wanted to do something meaningful for PCD Support UK and especially as most charities have struggled in the last 18 months with the lack of funding.

I have had some highs and lows training for the half marathon, but I am supported by my lovely friends (Barley, Ha, Gar Yin - profile pic) running with me and I know that they will encourage me every step on the big day.

Kylie also wants to raise awareness and money for PCD Support UK and has committed to running the equivalent of a half marathon (21km) over the next month before the Richmond half marathon on 12th September.  She will earn £2 from her parents for each km run.

Both Kylie and I would be grateful for any contribution, however little you can give towards PCD Support UK.

Below you can find out more about PCD Support UK and the invaluable work that the charity provides.

Love

Kylie & Nhu xxx

We are PCD Support UK. We’re here for those affected by PCD, we talk about PCD as widely as possible and we champion research to improve its diagnosis, management and treatment.Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare, genetic disease affecting around 1 in 15,000 people in the UK. It's caused by abnormal motile cilia (motile cilia are the microscopic hairs that beat in the airways, sweeping secretions out of the respiratory tract). PCD can affect the lungs, nose, sinuses, ears and fertility and causes recurrent respiratory infections.
