The 2014 comedy walk is for the charity Ovacome. Ovarian cancer is the second most common gynaecological cancer in the UK and is diagnosed in over 6,800 women a year.
Alison was a beautiful baby and over the year she grew into an elegant and lovely lady who had a personality and generosity in spirit which meant that she was loved by everyone who met her. She was a wonderful daughter who blessed her family’s lives.
In 1981 Alison became a nurse, sharing her loving caring nature beyond her family. She married a Chinese man called So. They had a fantastic marriage and had 3 children 1 of whom is comedian matthew fong. She was an excellent mother her caring nature meant she was a natural mother. Her Children couldn’t have asked for a better mum, always there for you even if it was on the end of a phone.
In March 2012 Alison Died of ovarian cancer however she is still spreading her love as much as ever as in 2014 the Hadrians wall comedy walk is in her memory and raising money and spreading awareness about ovarian cancer.
Thank you to matt for this piece about his mam, lets make sure next years walk is even bigger and better than comedy walk 2013.
Ovacome is a charity founded on personal experience. The founder, Sarah Dickinson, herself an ovarian cancer sufferer, wanted other women to be able to access clear, reliable information, support and advice. The work they do today still reflects her vision.
What ovacome offer
They are a registered charity established in 1996 with over 5,000 members that provides support and information for women affected by ovarian cancer, their families and friends. It is free to join.
They provide a nurse-led telephone and email support service staffed by medical professionals that can answer clinical questions, talk through the issues, provide emotional support, advice and chat.
They publish there newsletter three times a year which is packed with information about the latest ovarian cancer research, trials and lots of news from our members. Ovacome also publishes authoritative clinical information for people affected by ovarian cancer and for health professionals, and represents the interests of women to the health service, the medical and research establishments and decision makers.
They value contact with There members and have developed friendships with many of them. Every year Ovacome runs a free Members' Day with talks by top health professionals and researchers and sessions which provide opportunities for women with ovarian cancer to meet and support each other.
They are here for people affected by ovarian cancer.
Thanks to everyone that has supported us and continues supporting us.
