This is why I'm doing this...

My father sadly passed away on 19th October 2019 after seven weeks in Bath Hospital (RUH), he never recovered from a catastrophic stroke.  During this time, the care and support my father and ourselves received was amazing. We all hear about the shortfall of funds within the NHS, but these guys just deserve so much more! 

In the last days and in a moment of madness while sat by my father's side, I decided to enter the Bath Half Marathon without giving it much thought, Dad just smiled at me!  

I had only been casually running for less than a year at this point, having started out to make a change to my fitness level since giving up exercise when I left school!  I soon realised how out of shape I was and couldn't run for more than a minute!  Now I can run much further, my training is well underway.

It is also with great sadness my step-mum Julie will not see me run either as she passed away unexpectently within 3 months of being told she had secondary breast cancer on 23rd December 2019.  When I visited her at the Hospice, I told her I had just done a 6 mile run and questioned myself, why am I doing this half marathon?, her last words to me were "you daft bugger!"  Those words just stick in my mind and so I'm determined to do this and make them both proud of me.
