Story
It's late May, I have just returned from three months off with hardly any cycling and started training today to see if I can get around the 100 mile olympic cycle road race course in August. It was exhausting and I managed less than half the route. Its much harder work than in previous years! I will need to do a lot more training this year than in the past. But it will be worth it as I am raising much needed funds for the Africa Educational Trust.
AET has worked in some of the most difficult places in Africa for over 50 years. Previously focused on providing education to those fighting apartheid in Southern Africa AET now provides education in countries affected by conflict in Somalia, Somaliland and South Sudan. AETs programmes provide quality education that gives children and young people in these war torn countries a chance to play an active role in bringing peace, security and development to their countries in the future. In the short term it provides a sense of normality, essential to help children survive. I've seen for myself how important this is.
My wife Sally Healy has been on the board of AET for more than ten years and was recently elected as its chair. She has seen the work AET does, its amazing staff and the impact of its programmes. She wants to help AET expand its programmes and so do I. So that's why I am going to be training hard over the next three months so I can successfully complete the 100 mile course and raise funds for AET. Your support will make that possible.
