On the 10th August I will be cycling 100 miles up and down the hills of Surrey following the route of the 2012 Olympic cycle road race.  It was very hard work last year and i'm sure it will be the same again this year.  

So why am I doing it.  I'm doing it to raise funds for Christian Aid's humanitarian, advocacy and development work.  

As I write this Christian Aid is looking at ways of scaling up vital humanitarian work in South Sudan and Northern Iraq where people are again being forced to flee their homes as a result of conflict.  Christian Aid is providing food and other urgently needed supplies to those affected in both countries.  The immediate relief is essential to alleviate suffering but those we are helping also yearn for peace and security.  That's why Christian Aid also supports projects aimed at building peace and security working with local civil society organisation in both South Sudan and Iraq.
