Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Alex was diagnosed with Myasthenia in late 2006, when she was 15. It is a long and complicated tale, but in essence her illness was caused by a tumour of the Thymus gland, a small organ in the chest which is responsible for the development of our immune system. This was successfully treated early in 2007 and since then she has had long spells of good health. But this is a disease that never goes away and has affected her severely in the past few years. Her last stay in hospital was for 3 months with several admissions to ICU, at times on a ventilator as she was unable to breathe without help.    Scary times to say the the least!

Finally after a further 6 months recovery, the condition has stabilised and with continued medication and a balanced lifestyle, Alex should be able to lead a near normal life.
