We support the RBH special care baby unit to help babies and their families

Story

If anyone had told me a few years ago that I'd be setting up a fundraising page to run a 100K Ultra marathon across the South Downs I would have laughed hysterically. A Lot. But here I am doing it. Partly because I'm turning 40 this year and wanted to set myself a massive challenge (100K is 62 miles and that is REALLY FAR), but mainly to raise money for BIBS, the charity that supports the special care baby unit where Bea spent the first few months of her life.

It's been nearly 8 years since she was born 9 weeks early and extremely poorly, but the memories and emotions are as fresh as if it was yesterday. I'll never be able to repay Buscot Ward for saving my baby but I'll always try to raise money for them as a small way to say thank you and to give other babies and their families the best possible start.

We had a long and difficult journey after I suffered from premature rupture of the membranes at 22 weeks pregnant. After 9 weeks on bed rest in hospital Bea was born with pulmonary hypoplasia (incomplete development of the lungs). The doctors were unsure if she even had enough lung tissue to support herself and told us to prepare ourselves for the worst. Miraculously she made it through the night and fought hard against all the odds to live. The first few weeks were a nightmare with so many procedures and complications, but gradually she grew stronger and showed the strength of character we now know so well!

Fast forward to the present and Bea is a bright, happy, loud, confident and sporty child with a million questions about everything! She is high on life most of the time and I have Buscot and the NHS to thank for that.

Please help me to raise as much as I can, especially in these troubled times with all the difficulties the NHS faces.
