Story
For the past four years I have been lucky enough to volunteer at Forever Angels Baby Home, and am currently planning my fourth visit!
Forever Angels aims to raise awareness of the poverty and abandonment which children face in Tanzania, but also helps to alleviate these problems by working closely with families, empowering them to care for their children in their home. They believe all children should be raised in a loving family and so the first priority is keeping Tanzanian families together. To do this, Forever Angels’ outreach programme educates families on healthcare, as well as providing housing and setting families up with sustainable businesses to keep families out of poverty.
The Baby Home cares for those children who have been abandoned or orphaned. Here, 60 children, from newborn babies up to the age of 5, are loved and cared for by the amazing staff and volunteers. It also acts as a place of interim care for those children who’s mothers have died in childbirth (20 women die every day during childbirth in Tanzania, leaving 20 babies without a source of nutrition), while the outreach programme helps the family set up a sustainable business.
