Story

The UK Transplant Games is a national sporting event; through competitive sport our Nottingham Children's Team who have all received life changing Kidney Transplants can truly celebrate life and demonstrate their return to fitness. Not only can it promote friendship and co-operation between individuals concerned with transplantation, but the event also helps to increase public awareness of the value of organ donation.

The British Transplant Games Nottingham Children's Team consist of a handful of truly remarkable individuals,  fielding its biggest team ever in 2014 with 9 children and young people taking part, and bringing back a record number of gold, silver and bronze medals.  Historically however, the Nottingham Children's Team has not been well supported. The cost of registering and accommodation has been a problem for many families.  Last year, the BKPA and our own Renal Charity Kinder each agreed to help fund the team from Nottingham Children's Hospital and this enabled us to send our biggest team yet. However with hope of taking an even bigger team this year, our Nottingham Children's Team will need more support than ever before.

Feedback from families of the benefits of their attendance has been remarkable. Not only in regards to improved physical well-being and overall fitness but also that participation brings our patients into contact with those who have experienced the same conditions, increasing their support network not only for patients but for parents and siblings. The support network the Games can establish, therefore ripples not only at the event, but through life thereafter.

With the hope of continuous growth, the Nottingham Children's Team would not be possible without friends like you. We hope to continue to assist our fantastic team and encourage new attendees to take part. On behalf of the children, families & staff of the Nottingham Children's Hospital we would like to thank you for your interest and generous support. Who without we would not be able to support such a terrific and growing team.
