Whilst the rest of the world were enjoying festivities and celebrations on Christmas Eve 2016, there were five puppies on the streets of Kabul, cold, alone and starving. 
Momma dog had been knocked down by a car and killed.

Thankfully our staff were aware of the mom dog who took great care of her litter of pups and our dedicated team always looked out for her when in the area.
Whilst driving past the little family's usual spot on Christmas Day they sensed something was very wrong.
On closer investigation they found the poor mom dog and immediately started to search for her puppies, knowing full well the dire situation they would be in.
Thankfully, they soon found the puppies cowering in a shallow ditch huddled together for warmth.
The pups were gently scooped up and brought to the safety of the Nowzad shelter, where in the warmth of the clinic they received a hearty meal, medical treatment and lots of reassuring cuddles.

As it was Christmas Day they were given festive names, Carol now known as 'Hettie' soon found a home in the UK, now amazingly, Hettie's owners have decided to give a loving home to her brother Christopher too!

Last June we met a terrified little bundle at Heathrow airport. Hettie.
This was the start of a journey that saw us take many twists and turns both emotionally and psychologically. To see this frightened, nervous dog face and conquer her fears, create and build friendships with other dogs; trusting strangers in places called "pub"; to discover the joys of romping through fields of both long & short grass when she'd never even seen grass in Afghanistan... the list of her achievements is endless and now we really want her to have Christopher with Hettie.
Please help us reunite brother and sister to share and experience together endless joys of freedom, love & cuddles and a place they can together can call home.

If, for whatever reason, the companion animal rescue is not successful (such as disease or injury) then at the discretion of Nowzad Dogs, the funds collected via this Youcaring page will be allocated to support the vital daily operational costs of the Nowzad Dogs small animal clinic and shelter in Kabul.
The total required for a companion animal to travel to UK is on average £4000 for a dog and £2500 for a cat (we make no profit and everything is subject to currency valuations and fuel prices on the day). We are sadly unable to offer refunds on donations.
