Story
On 3rd August 2019, a team of 6 from Oakwood undertook the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise much-needed funds for our chosen charity, Mustard Tree, with whom we have been working for the past couple of years.
We chose to support Mustard Tree because of the amazing work that they do, transforming the lives of people in Greater Manchester who are trapped in poverty or homelessness, by enabling them to gain the skills and self-confidence they need to reach their full potential.
Their focus is on tackling both the causes and consequences of poverty, by offering people in crisis food, clothing and furniture.
Mustard Tree provides life-skills, training, education, mentoring and employment opportunities to help people to increase their resilience and enable them to escape poverty and homelessness for good.
Members of our team have witnessed first-hand the work that they do, volunteering at Friday night Soup Kitchens in Ancoats, providing IT training to a small group of people the charity supports and helping wrap presents and set up for their Christmas party.
We have been so impressed and inspired by the open and friendly space that they have created, the sense of community spirit and how they treat the people who come to Mustard Tree with such care, dignity and respect.
The Challenge
The Yorkshire Three Peaks is a challenging route over 24 miles in length and involving over 5,200ft of ascent over the summits of Pen-Y- Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.
The team have been in training for months, undertaking walks
of increasing length and difficulty as we look to build our strength and
stamina for the challenge ahead.
We would really appreciate your support in helping us raise vital funds for Mustard Tree, so that they continue doing the amazing work they do.
