We support recovery from poor mental to enable people to reach their potential

Story

I will be shaving my dreadlocks on 15th January 2019 to raise awareness for Plymouth MIND - the mental health charity.

Over the past 12 months through life changing events I have learned the importance of mental health. I personally have felt the effects of how poor mental health can affect yourself and someone around you. I have met people throughout my life who have been affected by mental health problems and have found it hard to open up and talk about it. It is very important for people to have an outlet in this world, a place to open up and talk about their problems, whether that be through family, friends or counselling. The stigma needs to be squashed. A good friend of mine passed away eairler this year and I am doing this in memory of him in a hope that one day everyone will have access to the support that they need.

This is why after growing my dreadlocks  for 4 years, I have decided to shave them off. My dreadlocks have been part of my life for a long time and mean a lot to me. I will be shaving them for a good cause, not just in memory of a friend, but also to raise awareness for how important mental health is for the everyday individual. I’m going to step up and make a difference to someone’s else’s life. This is  my way of saying thank you to everyone, close friends and family who have helped me through my mental health problems.

Please donate, everything you give will be really appreciated.

I have chosen Plymouth Mind as my charity.

They are mental health charity, formed in 1984, and continue to go from strength to strength, evolving and re-structuring as the need arises, reflecting both the needs of mental health service users and the community.

Plymouth & District Mind staff work closely with all levels of mental health professionals, community organisations and networks to improve the quality of life for those with mental health problems, and also to promote positive mental well being.  They are members of the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and have provided mental health awareness training to some of their members
