We raise money to transform the lives of sick babies

Story

Oscar Freddie Paul

Born too early, taken too quickly

Our beautiful baby boy Oscar was born extremely premature at 25 weeks and 2 days gestation on the 7th June 2010 at 3:38pm.  Although Oscar was born at Great Western Hospital in Swindon, because he was so premature he was unable to be cared for here and was therefore transferred to St Michaels Hospital in Bristol, which is the leading Neonatal Specialist Hospital in the South West.

From the very beginning of his journey Oscar showed true strength, courage and determination and filled us with love and inspiration.  During Oscar’s life he underwent an operation on his bowel at 6 days old, a blood infection, a lumbar puncture, several blood transfusions and daily tests.  Even when Oscar’s condition was deteriorating he continued to show signs of strength and improvement and proved to be a real fighter right to the end.  Oscar sadly lost his battle after 28 very courageous days and passed away on the 6th July 2010 at 7.43am.

We have set up Oscars Star Tribute Fund to try to help other children in Oscar’s situation.  We are raising money to buy the specialist equipment required for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St Michael’s hospital, to hopefully be able to help other premature babies like Oscar and also for the Ronald McDonald House in Bristol which gave us a place to stay during our time in Bristol.

We are eternally grateful for the support and help we received from both the staff at the Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House.  We do not know how we would have dealt with the rollercoaster of events and emotions we went through without these people.

Our room at the Ronald McDonald House really helped to take away the added stress of traveling to and from Swindon to Bristol, especially knowing that we were only a 2 minute walk away should the hospital call us.  It also gave us a place to have some time when things got very emotional.

Until being in a situation like we were in you really do not realise how invaluable places like the Ronald McDonald House are and also how amazing the Doctors and Nurses at our hospitals are.  They do a truly challenging job and really are something special.

We are extremely grateful for any donations we receive no matter how big or small, every penny really does count and we will keep you updated on how your money has been spent.  Please be rest assured that all donations made will be spent on Oscar’s charity going towards the purchase of much needed equipment and also to help provide accommodation for other families in similar situations during their time at the hospital.  No money will be spent on admin costs etc.

Thank you so much for your kind donations.

Our first fundraising event Oscar's Stars was a fantastic night.

We recieved some outstanding donations from various companies in Swindon, including £5,000 from the Swindon Liquid and Envy. £1,525 from Trident PSL and £500 from Neilson Promotions.

Along with selling over £3000's worth of raffle tickets, auction items and many other things going on on the night, we managed to raise a staggering £12,065 on the night, which will be shown as offline and online payments on our page.

Thank you so much to everybody who helped to make the evening such a succes and for everyones help and support we could not have done this without you all.

xxx
