Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the "My Great Manchester Run 2020 10k" in support of my local Mountain Rescue Team . With so many large fundraising events cancelled or postponed this year charities like this are missing out on much needed, vital funding.

Times are difficult for many of us at the moment, and whether its a donation of whatever you can afford ( no amount is too small) or sharing this page, your support is much appreciated. To kick things off, I am donating the equivalent of my race entry fees as these have been carried over to next year. I will complete a 10k run on (or before!) the now postponed run date of 06th September.

Here's a little bit from Mountain rescue about what they do:

Mountain rescue team members are on call, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to recover climbers from precipitous crags, reunite lost walkers with their pals and ensure injured and sick casualties are safely delivered into vital hospital care.

But they also regularly help search for missing children and vulnerable adults, on and off the hills, whilst administering sympathetic support to their families. They search river banks and swift water, and wade chest-deep through flooded urban streets aiding swimmers, kayakers and devastated homeowners.

And, between them, they rescue a frankly stunning number of dogs, cows, sheep and any number of other animals, from all manner of inaccessible places.

All this whilst continuing to practise and hone their first aid skills, technical ropework, water rescue and search management, and maintaining their bases, equipment and vehicles – not to mention taking time to maintain their own fitness. Oh, and did we mention they’re all volunteers?

Mountain rescue. So much more than mountains.

Providing a rescue service in the Peak District National Park. GMRT deal with incidents both on the hills and within the community of Glossopdale. They are a self-funding team of volunteers offering a vital service to those needing help in the hills and surrounding area.
