UPDATE: Unfortunately the Simon Community have cancelled the sleep out due to not having the necessary clearances from the council. However, there is a small group of us who have decided that it would be a real shame not to do anything (and wouldn't be fair on all the kind folk who have already donated), so we're basically going to wing it and sleep out anyway...
We will be sleeping rough for a night on Saturday 22nd October in central London to raise money for the homeless charity we volunteer for, the Simon Community. We both signed up during the September heatwave when it was 30 degrees thinking how hard can this really be? And now it's October and bloody freezing...
So who are we doing this for? The Simon Community are a wonderful charity who have been working since 1963 to alleviate the isolation of people sleeping rough, provide a place where they can gain a sense of belonging and foster the skills they need to move towards independent living.
One night on the streets of London is obviously not a patch on the real experience that 3,500 homeless people in England go through day after day, but hopefully by doing this we can contribute to and raise awareness of the great work that this charity is doing. Every single penny is much appreciated and no amount is too little.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thanks so much in advance,
Pat and Becky x
