Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Following my scrape with leukemia I got back to normal and thankfully have now been given the all clear. I thought that I was done with serious illnesses for a while however in October 2017 I suffered a heart attack which resulted in having a triple by-pass. My father had suffered 2 heart attacks in his lifetime and so being aware of this I was always pretty careful - never smoked, always exercised regularly and had regular checks showing low cholesterol levels (even though those of you who know me will know I don't live like a monk!). However it looks like I was genetically always going to have some form of cardiac event.
Having always been active this came as a bit of a blow and I was worried that my quality of life would be affected in the future. However medicine being what it is these days and due to the fantastic care I received from the NHS I was back on my feet in no time. Even though the recovery medically was fine you can't help but be concerned about stressing the old ticker when something like this happens and that's where cardiac rehabilitation comes in. I attended a rehabilitation program run by the Blackpool Victoria hospital and then followed that with ongoing rehab run by a charity called Heartbeat. It is these guys that gave me the confidence to get active again and to the extent that I am back running regularly and fit enough to complete another 1/2 marathon.
A lot of people helped me raise over £2000 for cancer research when I did the 1/2 marathon in March 2017 following the leukemia saga! So I am running the Newport 1/2 marathon again on March 3rd to try and raise some funds for Heartbeat. As I only seem to do these fund raising events after a serious illness hopefully you won't be hearing from me again anytime soon!
Please try to donate what you can so that they can continue to help people recover from heart issues and get back to a quality of life that we all take for granted.
