I am not quite sure how but I have been persuaded to take part in a cross-Channel relay swim in late August 2017. When I "agreed" to do this i naturally assumed you can ware a wetsuit. You can't so I shall be 1 of a team of 6 who will attempt to swim from Dover to somewhere near Calais wearing fetching budgie smugglers, a silly swimming hat and goggles.

Many of those who know me will be aware that I have ridden my bicycle all over Europe and even done the odd bit of running but swimming is something way out of my comfort zone. The last time I swam in the English Channel (before I started training for this caper) I was 6 or 7 and there are very good reasons for the 50 year gap. It's cold, there a big waves, fearsome currents, large ships, jellyfish and other nasty floating things to contend with. What can possibly go wrong?
