We're aiming to complete a Brighton to London bike ride...off-road. It's 75 miles of hilly, chalky, muddy, tough and demanding terrain.
Paul's stepson Ross was diagnosed as a Type 1 Diabetic in March 2010 when he was 12 years old. Type 1 Diabetes is an auto-immune disease - there is nothing we could have done to avoided him developing it. There is no cure for Diabetes and he will have it for the rest of his life. Every day of his life, Ross like other children with Type 1 have to endure an invasive blood test least 8 times a day, not to mention having account for the carbohydrate content of every single meal and snack. He has just been put onto an insulin infusion pump but before this he had to inject himself with insulin at least 5 times every day - if he doesn't inject he will die.
This is a horrible, horrible condition and the charity JDRF are working to both cure it and to improve the lives of the thousands of children and adults who live with Type 1 Diabetes. We want to help them to help Ross and other families who have to live with this.
Chris Jensen and Caroline Priest have also generously agreed to take part in this ride, their energy and enthusiam has proved to be a great asset to the team.
