Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

After losing our son Oliver we took some time to think what we wanted to do to help other people who may face a similar situation. We decided on raising £10,000 for the HR Trust. The HR Trust is dedicated to promoting and funding scientific research into uncovering not only the causes of the histiocytosis diseases, Langerhans' Cell Histiocytosis and Haemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis, but also ensuring early diagnosis, effective treatment and a cure. What is the Rat Race? Quite simply the World’s Biggest Assault Course and is being held in Burghley Park, Stamford. It will be 13 miles with 150 Obstacles to manouvre. It will be the most physical challenge I have ever done and just hope Oliver will be by my side to help me through it!

Apart from doing a half marathon 7 years ago (and swearing never to do anything as hard again!) I have done little exercise since. I go out for occasional bike rides and short walks but that is about my limit. So training starts now to atleast give me a half decent chance of completing the epic course!

The real driver behind all of this is to hopefully help funding enough research into the horrible desease that took my son away from me at the tender age of 2. Oliver was such a true boy and loved playing in mud and getting messy. We have had such a tough time since June 2012 when we he became a little star in the sky. If we can help find a cure which saves at least one other family going through the heartache we have gone through it will be worth ever bit of physical pain. One of our main drivers was Toby, Oliver's brother who was born just 6 days before Oliver passed away, he was our reason to carry on and get up in the morning. We were also very blessed to have an amazing group of friends and family who supported at the time and who continue to do so in any way they can. I know people might flipantly say 'they will do anything for you' but in my case I know that is true of each and everyone of them as they have done it!!
