In memory of Steve Perry; Andy Nisbet

Story

Tragic....Steve Perry died with his climbing partner Andy Nisbet on Ben Hope

The most active, prolific mountaineer that Scotland has ever produced. Both were gargantuan and inspiring figures in Scotland's mountaineering scene. A massive loss to us all.

Steve Perry  a well-known mountaineer, who had completed an on-foot round of the Munros in the winter of 2005-06 and was a keen climber in both summer and winter, who listed new routing in winter Scotland as one of his favourite climbing experiences. Their deaths are a huge loss to the mountaineering community. They left a massive legacy irreplaceable and priceless.

As a  thank you to Assynt mountain rescue team in searching operation to find the bodies, they worked around the clock,   SunnyAdventurs Outdoor club are holding a Memorial event Hike of Hope 22nd-25th March in memory of the top 2 UK leading climbers to raise funding for Assynt mountain rescue team; they’ve done a good job. You can support us by walking with us or make a donation.

This weekend is set in memory of them, starting with Cul Mor 22nd March 11am, Ben Hope on Saturday, Sunday and Monday walks to be arranged. More detailswill be posted on SunnyAdventures Facebook page later on when Sunny back UK
All welcome to attend any days of the 4.'

Sunny's friend very best unique birthday buddy(9 hours older) and climbing tutor Steve Perry ( irreplaceable prolific climber gave massive contributions to UK climbing guide books with numerous new routes mainly winter) and his climbing partner Andy Nisbet( UK climbing guide book writer 1000 plus new routes). there is no word to express our feelings of the tragic news. Being in china on holiday while heard the tragic news not making it easier. Sunny was going to climb with Perry this winter and set Cuillin ridge travers this summer and so much more adventures to come.  I will miss him in most high and wild places we shared.

Andy has climbed over 1,000-plus new winter routes all over Scotland, his enthusiasm was dynamic. Never in the history of Scottish mountaineering has anyone been so prolific or enthusiastic and introduced so many to the mountains especially in winter. Mr Nisbet, a former president of the SMC, had a vast knowledge of Scotland's mountains and his successful partnership with Mr Perry had resulted in a number of first ascents on Ben Hope in recent years.

Mr Nisbet was previously honoured at Fort William Mountain Festival, receiving the Scottish Award for Excellence in Mountain Culture in 2014, and has written numerous guidebooks. The festival said at the time: “Over the decades Andy has gone to incredible lengths to bring climbers a highly accurate and detailed record of the tens of thousands of climbs across Scotland in the SMC’s climber’s guidebook series.

"Andy’s life’s passion has been exploring and opening hundreds of new routes on Scotland’s mountains and sharing his unparalleled knowledge of the Scottish cliffs in his guidebooks.
"With almost 1,000 new winter routes to his name he has made far more first ascents in winter than any other Scottish climber.”
