Story
Thanks for visiting my page! My aim is to raise at least $500 for the African Lion Environmental Research Trust (ALERT).
Just over a week since I did the gorge swing!! It was definitely more terrifying than I imagined! But, you know.. the lions made me do it! I raised so much more than I expected, so I'm pretty happy! But I'm still here and the lions still need help! So, keep the love coming! --------------------On the 19th of July 2015 I’m going to put my big girl pants on and throw myself off the edge of a cliff into the Batoka Gorge over the Zambezi River. I don’t particularly fancy the idea of plummeting into and swinging over the gorge….but its all for a good cause!
I’ve often asked people what they know about lions and they are surprised to hear that it is listed as ‘vulnerable’ thanks to threats such as hunting, poaching and disease. Population numbers have declined 80 - 90% over the past 30 years!
ALERT is an organisation dedicated to the conservation of the African Lion with its main focus on releasing lions into the wild. ALERT also supports local communities offering education and employment opportunities while also being an important source of research on the lion, the ecosystems they are a part of, their interaction with humans and attempting to resolve human-wildlife conflicts.
Two years ago I worked as a volunteer for ALERT and am locked in for an internship with them in the middle of 2015. I’ve seen first hand the incredible job they do and am lucky enough to have been a part of it.
Take the time to visit their website and have a look around..
Please donate whatever you can! Anything will be greatly appreciated! Think of me on the 19th July....
THANKS!
