Cycling 100 miles to raise funds for Forget-me-not!
My challenge!
On August the 27th I am cycling Ride the North (RtN), a 100 mile cycle around Moray, Speyside and given my practice rides I hope to complete this in 7-8hrs. This is the longest ride in the RtN history
and also a personal challenge to me; the longest cycle I have completed to date is 62 miles (100km).
I am taking this as an opportunity to support the Forget Me Not Club and hope to boost their funds and help them continue with the brilliant work they do.
What is Forget-me-not?
Forget-Me-Not Club is a small, registered charity based in
Banchory, providing dementia support across Aberdeenshire. Their objective is to provide support to not only those living with a dementia diagnosis, but also their carers - helping to make life that little bit easier.
Why am I doing it?
Imagine looking into the face of someone you love and have
loved for years. When they look back at you, it is with little or no
recollection. That is just one of the many plights facing those suffering with dementia (and Alzheimer’s). I’ve experienced the impact of this illness personally and my wife, who works at Forget-me-not see’s the great work that they do and how it helps the clients and their families. It cost £250,000 to operate their resource centre all of which comes from charitable donations and fundraising. Many events, which would have raised funds, have been unable to take place due to COVID restrictions which has impacted the funds raised.
