We support schools in rural South Africa to improve children's education & prospects

Story

Micko and Blaze O'Byrne and Peter Rattray leave on the 1st August on a motorcycle trip from Fugitives' Drift in South Africa to Brecon in Wales.  The trip will take approximately 3 to 4 months taking us through Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania,  Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt, through Europe to Ireland and then onto Wales.

We are doing this trip to raise awareness of, and hopefully raise funds for The David Rattray Memorial Trust, which supports 19 impoverished schools in rural KwaZulu Natal.   David Rattray always said "without education there is no hope, and without hope there is no future".  This is a cause close to our  hearts, as it was started in memory of Peter's father who died in 2007.

About the charity

KHULA Education works with 21 schools in a deeply rural and under-resourced area of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. We run pre-schools, offer top-up teaching programmes focused on Maths and English, provide educator development and mentoring support, and have a life skills and job-readiness programme.
