Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'll be 70 in March and to celebrate my birthday I'll be cycling 1000 miles from Lands End to John o Groats. This 14 day tour commences on 6 May and I will average 72 miles a day. Part of the motivation for doing this challenge is because I'm due to have a second operation on my right hip which, after 19 years, is now very worn. My consultant has said that my functionality will be less good after the operation so it will probably be my last opportunity to do this ride. He has agreed I can go ahead as long as I stop if I experience any significant problems. I will be part of a tour organised by Peak Tours Ltd so I will have very good back up and won't have to carry my luggage.
This winter I've been helping out at the Manna House night shelter for homeless people in Kendal. This is a lifeline for people who would otherwise be sleeping rough. It was a pleasure to have spent time with these homeless people and listening to their stories made me realise how easy it is to become homeless, even if you have work!
The aims of Manna House are to provide a community of support to meet the physical, social and emotional needs of people who are homeless or vulnerably housed in South Lakeland. You can visit their website to find out more about the work they do. Manna House is very short of funds and so I would urge you to make a generous donation so it can carry on doing its important work.
